Matt Booterbaugh, NATA board member and CEO of RATP Dev USA, testified to the U.S. House Committee on Transit and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit on behalf of NATA. Matt shared with the committee the unique and valuable role that public/private contracts have in driving efficiency and innovation in public transportation.
Matt shared how while the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act increased funding for capital expenses, operating expenses are still primarily funded by farebox revenue and other state and local subsidies. NATA members can help close the gap by delivering cost-effective services. From micromobility and innovative operator recruiting to maintenance supply chain enhancements, our members are pioneering innovative solutions to meet customer demand. He offered several legislative recommendations to help encourage and incentivize contracting in order to improve service and reduce costs. NATA and its members look forward to continuing to work with the subcommittee as it develops reauthorization legislation and are honored to represent the industry in this important discussion.
